Every October, the Brennock Film Festival depends on well over 150 volunteers to keep its five screening venues running smoothly. This year's festival runs from October 14 to 19.
Volunteer roles
- Usher: Greet audiences, scan tickets, and guide latecomers to vacant seats. Shifts last four hours.
- Box office: Process ticket sales and exchanges. Shifts last five hours, and attendance at a training session on October 7 is mandatory.
- Guest services: Accompany visiting filmmakers between venues and their hotels. A valid driver's license is required; shift lengths vary.
Anyone completing three or more shifts will receive a pass good for any two screenings, as well as a festival T-shirt. Guest services volunteers will also be invited to the closing-night reception.
All volunteers must view a short online orientation video before their first shift, although those who served at last year's festival are exempt. Applications close on September 30.
Dear Mr. Whitlock,
I submitted my application yesterday and am writing to let you know which role I would prefer. Having handled ticketing at a community theater for several years before relocating to Brennock, I would most like to work at the box office. Unfortunately, a business trip will keep me out of town from October 5 to 9. Would it be possible to make some other arrangement for the training?
Should that prove impossible, I would gladly serve as an usher instead. As I don't drive, guest services isn't an option for me. I can commit to three shifts, though I'm only available on weekday evenings after 6 P.M.
This will be my first time volunteering with the festival, and I'm looking forward to getting involved.
Best regards,
Ingrid Solano
